2010 Australian General Election

Australia held its parliamentary election on August 21, 2010. All 150 seats in the House of Representatives were up for election, and a party needed to win at least 76 seats to form a majority government.

The election resulted in Australia's first hung parliament in 60 years. The Labor Party and the Liberal-National Coalition each won 72 seats, forcing each side to woo the body's six crossbenchers. Three independent MPs, plus the sole member of the Australian Greens, offered their confidence and supply to the Labor Party so that it could form government.
